Death Cab for Cutie will return to Milwaukee to headline the BMO Pavilion at Summerfest on June 25, 2027. The band will occupy the main stage for the first Friday of the festival, marking their second appearance in the city within less than two years. Organizers confirmed the date during a recent lineup announcement for the 2027 event.

The concert is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. The performance follows the release of the group's 11th studio album, I Built You a Tower, which came out in 2026. The band previously played the Miller High Life Theatre in July of last year to support that record. General public ticket sales for the 2027 date open at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 6, via Ticketmaster and the Summerfest box office.

As with other shows at the BMO Pavilion, the venue will offer free general admission seating on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event. Organizers note that reserved seats are available for purchase. Given the band's history of drawing large crowds in Milwaukee, many fans may opt for the reserved capacity rather than waiting in line for standing room.

Death Cab for Cutie formed in Bellingham, Washington, in 1997. The group is led by vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter Benjamin Gibbard. Their 2003 album Transatlanticism achieved platinum certification and was named by NPR as one of the most important recordings of that decade. The band's 2005 major-label debut, Plans, also reached platinum status and earned their first Grammy nominations.

Subsequent releases, including Narrow Stairs, Codes and Keys, and Kintsugi, contributed to a total of eight Grammy nominations for the group. The 2018 album Thank You for Today produced the chart-topping single Gold Rush. In recent years, the band has engaged in civic projects, such as The Georgia EP, which raised over $100,000 for voting rights efforts. Gibbard also released the tribute album Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono in 2022.

The 2026 album I Built You a Tower continues a run of work that includes Asphalt Meadows, also released in 2022. The band's catalog spans more than 25 years of recording and touring. Additional details regarding the opening acts for the June 25, 2027, performance will be released when Summerfest drops its full lineup early next year.
