The Milwaukee Brewers finished the 2026 season with 103 wins, a franchise record that secured the best mark in Major League Baseball. The team converted that regular season dominance into a championship by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in five games. This victory marks the first World Series title in the club's history.
The Brewers operated as the top team in the sport all year. Their October performance was consistent. They defeated the San Diego Padres in four games. They then swept the Los Angeles Dodgers, the defending champions who had eliminated Milwaukee in the National League Championship Series in both 2024 and 2025. The team finished the postseason with an 11-2 record. That stretch included a 26-5 run that began in September.
Statistical data supports the team's strength. Only one team in the majors scored more runs than Milwaukee. The Brewers led the league in batting average and on-base percentage. They also ranked first in walk rate and fifth in stolen bases. On the mound, the staff posted the second-lowest team earned run average and the second-best strikeout rate. Defensive metrics placed the unit in the top five to 10 for most categories.
This title ends a long wait for a Milwaukee championship. The previous pennant came in 1982, led by Hall of Famers Robin Yount and Paul Molitor. The team reached the NLCS in 2011, 2018, and 2025 without advancing further. Outfielder Christian Yelich noted before this year's series that any team hoping to win the National League had to beat the Dodgers until someone proved different.
Owner Mark Attanasio credits a disciplined approach in baseball's smallest market. He said the organization puts all resources back into the team. Milwaukee ranks around 19th or 20th of 30 teams in payroll. Front office leader Matt Arnold, a two-time MLB Executive of the Year, has maintained that edge even after David Stearns left to join the Mets and Craig Counsell became the manager of the Chicago Cubs.
Player development remains central to the roster. The team drafted Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, and Jacob Misiorowski. They signed Jackson Chourio, Luis Lara, and Abner Uribe from the international market. Rookie Cooper Pratt took over at shortstop during the season. Pratt, Chourio, and Lara have all signed early contract extensions. Misiorowski, Logan Henderson, and Robert Gasser form the core of the long-term rotation.
Manager Pat Murphy, who joined as a bench coach in 2016, is credited with unifying the culture. Players describe him as demanding but empowering. Pitcher Brandon Woodruff said, "He'll never say we play perfect baseball, but that's the way you have to be." The clubhouse focused on the next game even with a 3-0 lead. Yelich, the first team captain in franchise history, and Woodruff lead the veterans. Turang called them a big part of the reason the team succeeds.
The franchise began in Seattle as the Pilots before Bud Selig moved it to Milwaukee for the 1970 season. The city's last baseball title came in 1957 with the Braves. Brewers fans filled the streets of St. Petersburg this week. Mitchell said the "Let's go Brewers" chants started during batting practice before Game 3. Former players Yount and Molitor threw out first pitches during the Series.
The team will return to Milwaukee to celebrate the championship. The front office has scheduled a parade for the weekend. Players will meet with fans at the stadium. The season officially ends with this victory.
