The duo behind “Danny’s Song” sold 16 million albums in five years. Kenny Loggins is returning to the San Diego region to revisit that era and his subsequent solo career.

Loggins will attend the 2026 Coronado Islands Film Festival this week. He will be honored at Wednesday night's Leonard Maltin Industry Tribute Awards Gala. The event is sold out. On Friday, he will appear at the Village Theater in Coronado. The new documentary, “Kenny Loggins: Conviction Of The Heart,” will screen there. Loggins and director Dori Berinstein will answer questions from the audience after the show.

The 93-minute film offers a look at Loggins' life. It features clips from his time with Loggins & Messina and his solo hits. The film includes interviews with family members and music industry figures. Record executive Clive Davis appears in the footage. Davis died in June. Musical collaborators Michael McDonald and Richard Marx also participate. The film is described as candid but free of major plot twists.

Loggins discussed the possibility of adapting the documentary into a stage production. He said Berinstein wants to create a jukebox musical. He left the creative details to her and her writing team. He noted that the film’s title could work for a stage show. He said the final decision depends on the plot structure.

The filmmaker behind the project is Dori Berinstein. She is a six-time Tony Award winner. She directed and produced the documentary. Loggins called their collaboration a joy. He said they might work together again on the musical project.

Loggins also addressed the use of his music in a recent AI-generated video. President Trump posted a clip last fall featuring a fighter jet. The video used Loggins' song “Danger Zone.” Loggins issued a statement saying he did not grant permission. He asked for the recording to be removed. He said he wanted to use music to unite people rather than divide them.

The film marks a return to San Diego for the artist. He first visited the Hotel del Coronado as a child in the 1950s. He remembered the building looking like a castle. He has not performed on a large scale since his farewell tour ended in 2023. He now works with a vocal coach three days a week to maintain his range. He may perform a few duet shows with Michael McDonald next year.
