Taika Waititi is pushing back on reviews of his film 'Klara and the Sun,' posting the title's Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 78% on Instagram while the critic score sits at 28%, his lowest to date as a director.

'I haven't read a review of anything aimed at me or my peers in almost 15 years,' Waititi wrote. 'But I do listen to the people.' He added, 'this Halloween, let's spare a thought for those sad lost souls who couldn't achieve their dreams of becoming artists, and thus became critics.' He called those reviewers 'Irrelevant. Out of touch. Obsolete. In the bin.'

The film opened last weekend at No. 15, taking $720,000 from 880 locations. Sony scaled back its theatrical footprint after reviews described it as a 'calamitous' and 'strained, whimsical comedy that's ruinous.' Waititi directed from Kazuo Ishiguro's 2021 novel, set in a dystopian future where an obsolete companion android, played by Jenna Ortega, bonds with a young sick girl named Josie.

Ortega, who plays the android, told Vogue she does not read reviews of her films because 'that would send me into a psychosis of some sort.' She also said she does not check box office updates her team sends her, adding, 'I don't want it to become a numbers thing.'

Waititi previously directed 'Jojo Rabbit,' a film he noted was also disliked by the same critics he addressed in his post.
