Actor Adam Driver declared on Wednesday that his tenure as Kylo Ren is finished. Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Driver answered a question about his future in the Star Wars franchise with a definitive “Yeah. It’s over.” He added, “No more Star Wars,” confirming that he views the character arc as concluded.
Driver explained that a standalone movie centered on his character, titled The Hunt for Ben Solo, had been in development for several years. He worked on the project with director Steven Soderbergh. The team collaborated for two years on a script written by Scott Burns, Rebecca Blunt, and Soderbergh. Driver described the script as “really good” and stated that the group worked “really and earnestly” on the material.
The project stalled after Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman rejected the concept. Driver said the executives “didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive” following the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He noted that while Lucasfilm loved the initial idea, the final decision at the studio level was a no. “And that was that,” Driver said.
The actor first revealed the rejection in October 2025. At that time, he stated that he had always been interested in doing another Star Wars film. He said the team presented the script to Lucasfilm, which understood their angle. However, the final gatekeepers at Disney passed on the project, effectively ending the line of work for the character.
Driver said he would be open to returning if the studio wanted to resurrect the project, but he emphasized that the decision is not his to make. “If they wanted to, fine. But it’s not our call,” he said. He concluded by stating, “I think the ship has sailed, though.”
The fan response to the film’s cancellation generated noticeable attention. Driver praised the campaigns urging Disney to reconsider, including billboards and planes flying over Disney properties. “The fans’ response to it, though, was pretty incredible,” he said. He added that he did not expect such visible displays of support.
Driver is currently promoting his new film Paper Tiger, which stars alongside Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller. The movie is set to release in theaters on Nov. 13. He is also scheduled to begin work on Michael Mann’s Heat 2 next month. In August, it was announced that Driver will play Mister Sinister in the upcoming X-Men reboot.
