Olivier Dahan is directing a period drama titled 'Nana' that serves as the opening project for a new cross-border alliance between French and Greek production firms. Marvelous Productions and Kapa Studios will formalize their collaboration on Thursday at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The agreement establishes a framework for developing features and television series that target both European and international audiences.

The film adapts the classic novel by Émile Zola. It receives financial backing from France Télévision, Canal+ and the CNC. ARP handles co-production and distribution in France and abroad. Arthur Cohen of Momentum Entertainment brokered the deal and acts as executive producer. This initial project is designed to open a wider channel for joint development work between the two companies.

Romain Le Grand and Vivien Aslanian founded Marvelous Productions in 2017 after spending 19 years leading Pathe. The company has since produced or co-produced 15 films under a first-look deal with Warner Bros. Recent credits include Dahan's biopic 'Simone: Woman of the Century,' which was a top box office hit in France in 2022, and the comedy 'Bernadette.' The latter earned a César nomination in 2024.

Le Grand and Aslanian stated that the partnership will strengthen the European and international dimensions of their productions. They described 'Nana' as their flagship project. Giannis Karagiannis, CEO of Kapa Studios, noted that France and Greece possess distinct filmmaking traditions. He said the collaboration allows them to combine their strengths to create projects with global reach.

Kapa Studios brings over 50 years of industry experience to the deal. The company operates the largest sound stage facilities in Greece. Its 25-acre campus includes 12 stages totaling 250,000 square feet. The site also features backlots, existing sets, and 100,000 square feet of supporting space for offices, costume shops, and workshops.

Greece has gained popularity as a production hub partly due to its 40% cash rebate for filmmakers. Kapa Studios recently expanded its capacity by adding two new sound stages, each measuring 20,000 square feet. The Thessaloniki Film Festival runs from November 5 to 15.

Following the release of 'Nana,' Marvelous Productions and Kapa Studios plan to develop a television series together. Additional film and television projects may follow under the same partnership structure.
