T-Mobile is spending heavily to convince Americans that their current phone bill is too complex. The company launched a national advertising campaign featuring actor Bryan Cranston to promote T-Mix, a new wireless service. The plan allows subscribers to build their own package of features instead of buying a standard tier.

The 60-second commercial debuts during Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football broadcast. In the spot, Cranston plays a character who wakes people up in hotels, on airplanes, and in bedrooms. He holds a rattle and works alongside a rooster named George to startle viewers. Cranston says his character represents people who did not know better options existed until recently.

Lucy McLellan, executive vice president and chief brand and communications officer at T-Mobile, says the goal is to reach customers who ignore typical telecom ads. The company wants to move beyond its traditional millennial base. The campaign will run on broadcast television, streaming platforms, in theaters, on radio, and in digital spaces.

The creative work came from Highdive, T-Mobile’s new agency of record. T-Mix gives users the ability to change their selected services every 90 days. They can choose from a list that includes Netflix, Hulu, Apple Music, and DoorDash DashPass. Other options are Delta miles, Google Gemini, and SiriusXM. McLellan said a family of four could save up to $7,000 by picking only the features they actually use.

Cranston compared his role to a Pied Piper who helps people break free from rigid structures. He said the short format makes the job hard because every second counts. The entire shoot took two days. The crew filmed each scene multiple times to get precise angles. They used a small bowl of food on a stick to direct the rooster’s attention during filming.

Verizon recently started a similar campaign with Michael Myers for its Simplicity Plan. That ad included promotions like spending rebates and prizes. The move places T-Mobile in a competitive space with other carriers using big names to attract new groups of customers. Cranston has worked on commercials for Ford and CoffeeMate in the past.

The T-Mobile campaign marks a shift in tone for the brand. It follows previous ads with Billy Bob Thornton and John Travolta. The new approach focuses on specific savings numbers rather than broad entertainment value. The company will use digital channels to show different versions of the ad to specific consumer groups.
