Pop artist Grimes has joined the cast of Gods Don’t Give Gifts, a science fiction anthology produced by the AI studio Fable. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 4, 2026. This distribution strategy positions the project as the first AI-generated feature to debut in movie theaters. The release serves as a direct market test for the commercial viability of the medium.

Grimes will provide both her vocal performance and her visual likeness for the production. A promotional clip demonstrating these AI elements has already been released to the public. Industry observers suggest that the involvement of a high-profile celebrity lends credibility to a project that has drawn widespread attention within the entertainment sector. The casting choice aims to bridge the gap between mainstream audiences and emerging digital filmmaking techniques.

Fable indicated in a press release that this casting model may become standard in the animation sector. The studio stated that future AI-driven films will feature actors, athletes, and musicians providing audio while their digital counterparts appear on screen. This approach separates the human performance from the visual generation process, allowing for a new type of production workflow.

Jack London, known online as Gossip Goblin, directed the film. The narrative is set in a future where human bodies are viewed as disposable and consciousness has become a commodity. The story follows four interconnected plots that examine the consequences of humanity's attempts to move beyond physical form. The thematic focus aligns with Grimes' previous artistic work, which has frequently explored transhumanism and artificial intelligence.

Grimes is also developing an AI-themed album titled Psy Opera. This new role is part of her broader engagement with artificial intelligence media. The film's release will test whether audiences are ready to accept this new form of storytelling on a commercial scale. Box office performance will provide the clearest data on public reception.

Previous AI projects have received mixed reviews. Two different versions of The Odyssey were produced using various models, including one created with Elon Musk's Grok system. These earlier efforts have left many observers uncertain about the medium's current capabilities. Critics note that the technology has not yet definitively proven itself as a vital storytelling tool rather than a novelty. The upcoming release of Gods Don’t Give Gifts will be the first major opportunity to measure audience response to a fully AI-generated theatrical feature.
