Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras met with approximately 350 fans at a Dick's Sporting Goods store in Brookfield on Sunday. The event took place in the morning, with the session beginning around 10:30 a.m. Kyle Flanagan, the store's field marketing manager, estimated the total attendance at 350 individuals who waited for a chance to interact with the player.
Fans began arriving in the early hours of the day to secure a spot in the queue. Braeden Johnson and his sister Emmalee Johnson were the first in line. Braeden Johnson reported arriving at 4 a.m. and sleeping on the concrete floor while he waited. The siblings stated they wanted to meet a World Series MVP because they had never previously had the chance to get an autograph or shake hands with a professional athlete.
The line grew to wrap around the building and extend into the parking lot. Emmalee Johnson noted that the crowd size was larger than expected. She said the group was fortunate to arrive when they did because many fans showed up later in the morning. Jenzell Carrera arrived at 6:30 a.m. and waited with his father. He described the event as a rare opportunity to see the first MVP in the history of the Brewers franchise.
Contreras discussed his reaction to winning the award during the meet and greet. He said the trophy was important for the city and that he felt incredible about the achievement. Carrera told Contreras that he was thankful for the player's support of the team. The fan also shook the catcher's hand during the visit.
The interaction included autograph signings and photographs. Braeden Johnson said he spoke to Contreras in Spanish and received a response. Emmalee Johnson fist-bumped the catcher. Carrera said the wait was worth the time spent in line, regardless of the length of the individual interaction.
Contreras expressed happiness about meeting the supporters, specifically mentioning the younger fans in the crowd. He said he was glad to be present for the gathering. The event concluded after the estimated 350 fans had the chance to meet the player.
