The free waiting zone at Bristol Airport has changed location to make room for construction. The move takes effect on October 19 and lasts until December 18.
The airport is spending £1 million on new infrastructure. The project includes electric vehicle chargers and bus stops positioned directly outside the parking area. A spokesperson stated that the zone is being relocated to enhance customer facilities during the work.
Drivers who use this area to wait for passengers can park for free for up to 60 minutes. The zone is located near the car rental center. It features a pay station, toilets, and litter bins. If a driver stays longer than one hour, the cost is £20 for the first two hours. Each additional hour or part thereof costs another £20.
The airport installed new signposts to guide drivers to the neighboring parking area. Pedestrian and bus links are also clearly marked. The temporary setup remains in place for the full duration of the refurbishment.
The airport reminded travelers that a strict no stopping policy is active across the site. Drivers cannot stop, unload, or park on the road networks or red routes. These areas are marked with signs and double red lines. North Somerset Council and police manage the red routes on the A38 and the layby near the entrance.
The airport said the restrictions help maintain high levels of road safety. Anyone who fails to comply faces a fine of up to £100. This policy applies even when drivers are picking up or dropping off people.
Bristol Airport charges £8.50 for 10 minutes in its drop-off and pick-up zone. Only Gatwick and Stansted charge more for the same amount of time. The airport is also seeking feedback on its £500 million expansion plans. The proposal aims to handle 15 million passengers a year and add long-haul flights to the US and Middle East by the late 2030s.
