Wyandotte County residents gathered on Saturday streets to participate in a national voter mobilization campaign ahead of Election Day. The event, known as the March to the Polls, was part of a coordinated effort led by the organization Repairers of the Breach.

The group is executing a 100 Days, 1,000 Marches to the Polls initiative. The goal is to drive voter participation across the country by addressing issues that affect daily life. Local participants joined the rally to align with this broader national push.

Kathy, who represents the Kansas Poor People's Campaign, stated that the marches are designed to demonstrate collective presence. She described the effort as an act of conspicuous courage intended to inspire others to cast ballots.

Economic conditions played a central role in the rally's messaging. Kathy noted that residents are currently struggling and facing fear within their communities. She argued that while voting is not the only tool available to citizens, it remains a primary method for addressing these concerns.

Local ballot initiatives also drew attention during the event. Bryon Williams pointed to specific county measures that could impact services for residents. He cited issues ranging from homelessness to mental health care as critical local priorities.

The rally occurred one day before President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Kansas. Kathy said the group remains focused on its own message despite the president's upcoming arrival. She stated the participants intend to stand up against attempts to remove their power and dignity.

Williams acknowledged that the presidential visit would generate attention. However, he said his priority is ensuring that locals in Wyandotte County are addressed. He emphasized the need to focus on local concerns over national headlines.
