Joe Milton will start for the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday against the New York Giants, according to sources. This change makes Milton the third different quarterback to begin a game for Philadelphia this season. He replaces Tanner McKee, who has started the previous three matchups.

The decision reverses a position stated publicly by coach Nick Sirianni. On Monday, Sirianni told reporters that the Eagles would continue with McKee as their starter. The shift occurs with the team holding a 2-6 record and sitting in last place in the NFC East heading into Week 9.

Philadelphia signed Milton from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad on Oct. 16. That signing came one day before the Eagles placed Jalen Hurts on injured reserve. Two days later, Hurts' agent and the team confirmed that the franchise quarterback would miss the remainder of the season. Doctors discovered multiple blood clots in both of his lungs.

Milton spent the previous year as a backup to Dak Prescott. He appeared in four games off the bench during that stretch. The Patriots originally selected Milton in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft. Dallas acquired him in an April 2025 trade. The Cowboys waived him earlier this year after he lost a competition for the backup role to Sam Howell, but they returned him to the practice squad days later.

McKee has completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 638 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions during his tenure as starter. The Eagles have lost six consecutive games.

Sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and ESPN's Adam Schefter about the quarterback change. ESPN's Tim McManus contributed to the report.
