D'Andre Swift rushed for three touchdowns Monday night as the Chicago Bears defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-17. The performance moved the franchise's running back into rare statistical territory. Swift now has 10 rushing scores in just eight games this season.
Pro Football Reference data identifies Swift as the first Bears back to reach that milestone in nearly 30 years. Raymont Harris last accomplished the feat in 1997. Swift's current pace puts him in direct contention for the all-time single-season record.
That mark stands at 14 rushing touchdowns. Walter Payton and Gale Sayers share the franchise record. Payton reached the number twice during his career. Sayers set the standard in 1965. Both players achieved the total in exactly 14 games played.
Swift has nine games remaining on the schedule. He needs four more scores to tie the long-standing mark. He needs five to break it. The Bears face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night before their bye week. That game offers Swift one more opportunity to extend his season total.
The Seattle defense had allowed few rushing scores all year. Swift capitalized on the matchup to extend his lead in the race for the franchise record. The 34-17 result gave the Bears a strong finish to the week before they turn their attention to the Buccaneers.
