The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-19 on Sunday, snapping the Chiefs' perfect start to the 2026 season. The decisive factor in the game was the Seahawks' defensive performance against Kansas City's backfield, which limited star running back Kenneth Walker III to just 36 yards on 14 carries. Walker entered the game leading the league with 665 rushing yards, but the Seahawks deployed two deep safeties for much of the contest and never allowed him to gain 10 yards on a single carry.
The Chiefs' offensive struggles extended beyond the running game. With Rashee Rice out due to a strained right hamstring and Tyquan Thornton on injured reserve, the receiving corps produced only six receptions for 39 total yards. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 165 yards and scored a season-low six fantasy points. This marked the second game in a row where Mahomes failed to throw a touchdown pass. He has topped 250 passing yards only once in his last four games.
For Seattle, the victory was built on a strong performance from wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He finished with a career-best 129 receiving yards in the first half, a mark that surpasses any half by a Seahawk since Tyler Lockett in 2020. Smith-Njigba now leads the NFL with 867 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. According to ESPN Research, he is the first player in the Super Bowl era to accumulate at least 850 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in his team's first seven games.
Quarterback Sam Darnold started the game strong, completing 13 of his first 17 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. However, he threw an interception in the final seconds of the first half, his eighth such error in the past five games. Despite the mistake, Darnold finished with 20 of 28 completions for 257 yards and avoided the five sacks he had taken in each of the previous two games.
The Seahawks will host the Chicago Bears on the next Sunday, November 2, at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Chiefs travel to Denver to face the Broncos on the same day at 4:25 p.m. ET. The game was part of a Week 7 slate that also saw the Rams score their highest number of points this season without Davante Adams and the Lions force a turnover against the Packers.
In other Week 7 action, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New Orleans Saints in the league's first game played in France. Jaylen Warren carried the ball 18 times for 101 yards in that contest. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won in Baker Mayfield's return, while the Minnesota Vikings remained undefeated after defeating the Indianapolis Colts. The Denver Broncos also secured a win in Arizona, extending their recent trend of relying on big plays to overcome third-down struggles.
