Lamine Yamal scored the fastest goal of the night to move past Kylian Mbappe as the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history. Barcelona defeated Aston Villa 3-0 on Tuesday night at Camp Nou, a result that halts the Premier League side's perfect start to the European campaign.
The match began in rain, and Barcelona applied immediate pressure. In the seventh minute, a high press forced Joao Gomes into a mistake while Villa attempted to play out from the back. Yamal collected the loose ball, cut inside onto his left foot, and curled the shot past goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. That goal was his 14th in the competition, surpassing Mbappe's previous mark for the age group.
Villa pushed back against a vocal crowd of approximately 3,000 traveling fans. Matty Cash, Gomes, and Johan Manzambi created chances, and Nicolas Jackson went one-on-one with Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia. Garcia won that duel, and the hosts extended their lead after the break.
Raphinha put Barcelona ahead 2-0 in the 52nd minute. His strike deflected off Pau Torres' heel and went into the net. He added a third goal later in the half with a precise finish following a cross from Joao Cancelo. The Brazilian has now scored 19 goals in 13 appearances this season, leading all top five European leagues. Together, Yamal and Raphinha have accounted for 32 of Barcelona's 60 goals in 15 matches.
Raphinha's 23 career Champions League goals for the club now equal Robert Lewandowski's total. Only Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez have scored more for the team in that competition. The win also marked a defensive milestone for Hansi Flick's squad. It was their first clean sheet in the tournament since the spring of 2025, ending an 18-match goal-conceding streak that began against Borussia Dortmund 19 months ago.
The clean sheet came despite injuries to Eric García, Jules Koundé, Andreas Christensen, and Xavi Espart. Flick fielded a makeshift backline with young midfielder Brian Fariñas playing right-back and Gerard Martín partnering Pau Cubarsí in the center. Villa manager Unai Emery turned 55 during the match, a milestone that marked his first win at Camp Nou in his managerial career.
Aston Villa had won its previous three European matches against Club Brugge, Fenerbahce, and Viking FK. Defensive errors contributed to all three Barcelona goals, though Suzuki made key saves to stop Fermín López. Late in the game, Leon Goretzka hit the post, and Tammy Abraham, Ibrahim Mbaye, and Ross Barkley missed their shots. Barcelona next faces Atlético Madrid in LaLiga on Sunday, while Villa remains in control of its European group fate.
