Oklahoma State football travels to Manhattan, Kansas, for a 12 p.m. kickoff against Kansas State on Saturday. The Cowboys aim to end a two-game road losing streak after dropping consecutive matches at Houston and Iowa State.
Coach Eric Morris addressed the recent 51-49 defeat at Iowa State during his weekly news conference. He acknowledged the team needs to clean up its play, specifically on defense, which allowed 51 points in Ames. Morris praised the Iowa State fan base and the atmosphere in Cyclone Stadium while noting the Cowboys made key errors.
A major point of discussion involved the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on receiver Wyatt Young. The penalty occurred after Oklahoma State scored a go-ahead touchdown with less than one minute remaining. Morris declined to disclose any specific punishment for Young. He noted that Young sent a long text message after the game and requested to address teammates to apologize for his actions.
Offensive lineman Johnny Dixon, who has played alongside Young since their time at North Texas, shared a perspective on the incident. Dixon was on the field for the touchdown and stated that players share responsibility for keeping celebrations under control.
Morris also cited Justin Bowick’s performance as a positive takeaway. He highlighted Bowick’s work ethic and production. Bowick blocked multiple Iowa State defenders on Caleb Hawkins’ 75-yard touchdown run to help spring the play.
The Wildcats host the Cowboys after losing at Colorado. There is uncertainty regarding Kansas State starting quarterback Avery Johnson, who has been dealing with an injury.
