Bob Harvie, a Fallsington resident, will face incumbent Republican Brian Fitzpatrick in the November 3 general election for Pennsylvania's First Congressional District. Harvie, a Democrat, seeks to replace the sitting member of Congress who represents all of Bucks County and part of Montgomery County. Voters in the region will decide who holds the seat following the election.
Harvie brings two decades of local experience to the federal race. He served as a public school teacher for 26 years before joining the Bucks County Board of Commissioners. He has held the position of Vice-Chair on the board for over six years. His education includes a bachelor's degree from George Washington University and a master's degree from Holy Family University. He resides in Fallsington and has two children.
In his campaign materials, Harvie describes his motivation for seeking the House seat. He stated that he runs because he believes every family deserves a fair shot at the American Dream. He noted that he was born and raised in Bristol Borough. He said he has watched hard-working families struggle to make ends meet, raise children, buy homes, and plan for retirement. He argued that the cost of housing, healthcare, groceries, and energy places pressure on households. He said Washington needs to address these challenges more effectively.
Harvie outlined his economic priorities, focusing on affordability as his top issue. He pledged to protect Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare. He proposed reversing policies he believes drive up prices, including unnecessary tariffs. He stated that families should not have to choose between paying bills, filling prescriptions, and buying food. He supports allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and capping insulin costs. He also supports expanding access to affordable healthcare and investing in workforce development and starter homes.
On foreign policy, Harvie criticized the current administration's handling of the conflict in Iran. He called for an end to the war, citing lives lost and higher fuel prices for consumers. He noted that Congress voted multiple times in favor of the Iran War, specifically naming Fitzpatrick. Regarding Ukraine, he supported the country's right to defend its sovereignty. He said the United States should work with NATO allies to strengthen European security and pursue a lasting peace. He emphasized that American assistance must be accountable and that strategy should be clear about goals and ally responsibilities.
Harvie also addressed immigration and potential investigations. He described the current immigration system as broken and called for comprehensive reform. He advocated for strengthening border security while treating people with dignity. He said enforcement should focus on dangerous criminals and genuine security threats rather than entire communities. He proposed that immigration agencies undergo proper training, background checks, and operate with transparency. He stated that if elected, he would support investigating Elon Musk for his role in throttling Starlink.
Harvie emphasized his record of bipartisan cooperation in local government. He cited a voting record with over 95 percent bipartisan support on the Bucks County Board of Commissioners. He said he has worked across party lines to balance budgets and deliver services. He stated that families care more about results than party credit. He pledged to work with anyone willing to deliver results for Pennsylvania residents. He added that working across the aisle does not mean abandoning principles or staying silent when he believes a policy will hurt working families.
The district includes the entirety of Bucks County and a portion of neighboring Montgomery County. The November 3 election will determine the next representative for this area. Harvie's candidacy adds a local government perspective to a race focused on national issues like cost of living, foreign wars, and immigration reform.
