John Goodman Cast as Father in Netflix Thriller Sequel

John Goodman has signed a deal to join the second season of the Netflix series "The Beast in Me." The actor will portray Jack, the father of Aggie Wiggs, a character played by Claire Danes in the first season. This casting news comes after Netflix confirmed in September that the show would continue beyond its initial run.

No specific plot details for the new episodes have been released yet. The production team opened a writers' room earlier this year to develop the story. The series originally launched in 2024 as a limited series but is moving forward as a continuing show, similar to the trajectory of "Big Little Lies."

Goodman is a familiar face in television and film. He has received 11 Emmy nominations throughout his career. Seven of those nominations came for his role in the sitcom "Roseanne." He won the Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a drama in 2007 for his performance in "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." He later returned to the "Roseanne" universe for a revival that was renamed "The Conners" and aired for seven additional seasons.

His other television work includes "The Righteous Gemstones" on HBO and "Damages" on FX. In film, he has collaborated with the Coen brothers on four projects: "Raising Arizona," "Barton Fink," "The Big Lebowski," and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" He also appeared in "Argo" and "Flight." Goodman is represented by the agencies Gersh and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.

The first season of "The Beast in Me" earned recognition at the Emmy Awards. Matthew Rhys won the award for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series. The show also won the Emmy for outstanding music composition in the same category. The series was produced by 20th Television.

Howard Gordon served as showrunner for the first season. He will share those duties in the second season with Daniel Pearle, an executive producer from the previous run. Gabe Rotter remains the creator and an executive producer. Claire Danes will continue to star and serve as an executive producer.

The executive producing team for the upcoming season includes Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Conan O'Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross, and Jodie Foster. The production is currently underway with the newly formed creative team.
