Oklahoma City University is opening its campus to the public for a series of free events during its homecoming week, which runs from Nov. 10 to Nov. 14. The university named the celebration “The One Where They Had Homecoming,” a theme modeled after the television series “Friends” and the atmosphere of New York City.
Isaiah Bailey, an OCU alumnus and Broadway performer, will lead the schedule of public activities. He currently stars in the touring production of “Phantom of the Opera.” Bailey will present a talk on his career at 1 p.m. on Nov. 12 inside Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel on campus.
The week culminates with a parade and athletic events on Nov. 14. Bailey will serve as the parade marshal for a procession that circles the OCU campus perimeter. The parade will feature creative floats and begins at 11 a.m.
Community members can attend a pregame tailgate celebration at 12:30 p.m. inside the Freede Wellness and Activity Center. The event provides food, entertainment, and free OCU Homecoming T-shirts. Participants will gather before the OCU Stars women’s basketball team plays Haskell Indian Nations University at 2 p.m.
The 42nd annual LipSync Student Competition is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Freede Center. The event incorporates visual elements from New York City, including Times Square lights, Broadway marquees, and subway signs, to match the week’s theme.
The Freede Wellness and Activity Center is located at 1798 NW 27th St. The university invites the local community to join the festivities and view more event details at okcu.edu/homecoming.
