Major League Baseball Network announced Monday that Atlanta Braves manager Walt Weiss is a finalist for the National League Manager of the Year Award. The announcement places Weiss in contention with two other managers from the 2026 season.
Weiss, Don Mattingly of the Philadelphia Phillies, and Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers make up the final group of three candidates. Murphy is attempting to win the honor for a third consecutive year, a feat no manager has recently achieved.
The Braves elevated Weiss from bench coach to manager after Brian Snitker retired. Snitker’s final campaign saw the team lose 76 games and miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Under Weiss, Atlanta won 94 games and claimed its first NL East division title since 2023.
The team secured the No. 3 seed in the postseason. In the National League Wild Card Series, Atlanta defeated the Phillies two games to one at Truist Park. The Braves then lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a five-game National League Division Series.
The Manager of the Year winner will be revealed on Nov. 10. One day later, on Nov. 11, the league will announce the Cy Young Award winner. Chris Sale of the Braves is a finalist for that honor and would earn his second such award if selected.
Other finalists in the National League include Pete Crow-Armstrong, Shohei Ohtani, and Brice Turang for MVP. The American League finalists for manager are Kevin Cash, Chad Tracy, and Will Venable.
