Jon Stewart directed a segment of his Monday night monologue on The Daily Show toward Donald Trump's comments regarding Nicki Minaj. The host addressed the remarks made by the president during a recent rally in Michigan, where Trump stated that he had observed a "beautiful ass" belonging to the rapper. Stewart noted that the comment was difficult to ignore and became a focal point of the evening's broadcast.
The host began by referencing the midterm elections and the primary concerns of voters, which included the economy, the cost of living, and the war in Iran. Stewart observed that Trump was returning to the campaign trail to make his case. He then played a clip of the president discussing a man's physique, describing it as "a big piece of muscle." Stewart followed this with the clip of the remark about Minaj, asking with disbelief how the comment was real while voters waited for discussion on inflation.
Stewart described Trump's demeanor while Minaj was speaking as transfixed. He compared the president's attention to Yogi Bear floating toward a pie on a windowsill. The host suggested that voters wanted the president to address economic issues rather than focus on physical appearances during campaign events.
The monologue also included a critique of a campaign advertisement from Vivek Ramaswamy, the Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate. The ad featured Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate's estranged mother. Stewart pointed out that Acton's mother had not spoken to her daughter in fifty years. He noted that the estrangement stemmed from a custody dispute related to the mother's husband being indicted for raping their daughter at the time.
Stewart played a clip of Trump defending the advertisement. In the footage, the president referred to a reporter questioning the sexual abuse allegations as a "horrible little reporter." Stewart reacted by asking when Trump had become Miss Hannigan. The segment highlighted the host's focus on contrasting the candidates' campaign strategies with their public interactions.
The broadcast occurred after an announcement that Stewart would continue hosting The Daily Show through 2028. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of 2026, but he signed a one-year renewal in November 2025. Stewart first hosted the program in 1999, departed in 2015, and returned in February 2024. Ratings for the show increased following his return to the anchor desk.
